What does ISO certification cost?

A good, experienced consultant helps you get the task done faster and more efficiently. Our surveys show that firms that engage a consultant to assist them complete the project in roughly half the time it would otherwise take.
We’re a busy scrap recycling company. We don’t have a lot of extra time around here. How much will the implementation process interfere with day to day work? Will you be taking up lots of our people’s time during consulting visits?
It always takes extra company resources to complete the implementation process. As ISO and scrap industry experts, we know how to minimize that, but we can’t eliminate it.
Even so: we understand that you can't shut your yard down "to do ISO." We realize that you have to keep processing and shipping metal, every single day. We know how to work flexibly, to work around your staff's busy schedules. We adapt and adjust as circumstances require to keep your process moving forward.
What does "ISO compliant" mean?
A firm saying it is "ISO compliant" is claiming that it meets the ISO requirements. But since this has not been verified by an independent, objective, external audit, you have to take their word for it. With certification/registration, your ISO compliance is independently verified via external audit by an accredited registration body.
What company does the actual certification? How do we find them?
There are about 75 registration/certification companies operating in North America today. Credentials vary widely. Not all are qualified to audit scrap processing / recycling firms. And costs vary widely also.
We at Kantner & Company have worked with several dozen certification firms. There are, perhaps, a half dozen of these who are a) fully credentialed and qualified, and b) have delivered good service to Kantner & Company scrap recycling clients over the years.
As part of our consulting service, we walk you through the process of selecting the certification firm that is best for you. We are independent of all of them and have no vested interest in which one gets the nod. But we know the field and we know who the good guys are.
Experience, experience, experience. To date we have guided some 150 organizations in North America to full ISO registration. This includes over 20 scrap recycling firms. (See Track Record.) No one else in our field matches the breadth and depth of our scrap recycling experience.
No. We work closely with you to design your management system so it fits how things already work as closely as possible. Where changes are needed due to ISO requirements, we offer options drawn from our many years of scrap industry (and ISO audit) experience.
